About this food

Wiki

Clam Chowder is a chowder usually made with broth and clams and enriched with potatoes, onions, and other vegetables to taste. The New England variety, made with cream and flour, is the most popular variety. However, other versions are becoming increasingly popular, including Manhattan chowder, made with tomatoes for flavor and coloring.

The English word "chowder" is said to have originated in Newfoundland, where French-Breton fishermen threw their daily catch into a large hot pot called a chaudron (meaning "cauldron").
