An absolute must when eating sushi.

I always order a spicy tuna roll whenever I go out for sushi. I love the stuff because its cheap, delicious, and because each restaurant seems to have a different recipe and spice intensity of its own!

For some reason, I don't enjoy spicy salmon rolls as much as I enjoy spicy tuna rolls. To me, salmon tastes too fishy, not as much as tuna. I know that good sushi should never smell like fish, but for some reason, I can't escape this phenomenon no matter where I go. That's why I ultimately prefer tuna in general.

However, spicy tuna rolls can sometimes be way too spicy. Mikuni's in Sacramento is known among my circle of friends for having really spicy versions of this roll. I took my mom there once and we probably drank enough water to dent the flow of the Sacramento River because their version is so spicy. Some restaurants also put jalapeno shavings on top or inside the roll, and I don't care too much for that, either. No matter how intense, though, soy sauce is the magic elixir!

If you've never tried sushi, spicy tuna rolls are great to start with. You can barely taste any fish, they're quite delicious, and best of all, they're cheap. Just writing this makes me know exactly where I'll be eating tomorrow...

I'm with you. I think spicy tuna is a high water mark for raw fish. If I can get a roll that tastefully pairs it with jalapeno, I'm set. If in LA, Touch of Death at Sushi Hiroba in Hollywood tastes like heaven to me.
