I am not the kind of person who typically rants and raves about a fast food menu item. A burger is a burger is a burger, after all. But ever since the Sonic chain moved into the Lehigh Valley, I have become a fast and furious fan of their products. The latest cause for excitement? Their SuperSONIC Breakfast Burrito!

Ordered on a whim after hearing a radio commercial advertise their all-day breakfast menu (an admittedly impressive break from the typical 10:30 cut-off), I was expecting the usual sad display of stiff eggs and soggy onions mixed with a light scattering of frozen sausage crumbles. What I got, however, was without a doubt the best fast food breakfast burrito I have ever feasted upon! While I can not attest to the actual freshness of the ingredients used, I am willing to take their word, because everything about this breakfast burrito tasted fresh, right down to the crisp onions and tomatoes, and the sausage that was definitely not simply a sandwich sausage patty chopped up (as most burger joints do these days). Also, I can tell "freshly cooked" hot from "heat lamp" or "microwave" hot, and this was neither of the latter two.

Best of all was the big surprise: Jalapenos! If you look up the breakfast burrito on the Sonic website, jalapenos (actually, they list them as "Spicy Jalapeos") are clearly listed. On the drive-up menu itself, however, while jalapenos are visible in the picture of the burrito, the only listed ingredients are sausage, onions and tomatoes. Luckily for me, I like jalapenos, and these spicy little bastards did not disappoint! I have tried most of the supposedly "HOT" fast food offerings, and they are usually mildly spicy at best. But Sonic doesn't mess around: I could still feel the burn of freshly chopped jalapenos a god twenty minutes after the burrito had been fully consumed. That's the lingering burn of a top-notch breakfast burrito! If you want a value comparison, I can safely claim that three dollar menu breakfast burritos would still come nowhere close to this large $2.99 champion of spicy egg/sausage action!

I've probably already said more than I would normally care to about a fast-food breakfast sandwich. But I can't help it. This is simply the best. Don't wait for breakfast! Get one now!

I never thought I'd say this, but you're making this Sonic burrito sound really friggin' amazing. Too bad I don't have one around my neck of the woods! And I think somebody should start a fast food community here on Lunch, I could see a whole niche for that.... Thanks for sharing! :)
