Thai Cuisine > Wiki

Thai food refers to food that originate from Thailand.  This cuisine bases itself on many curries and spicy foods, but makes a known attempt in combining spicy, sweet, sour and salty in every meal - if not every dish.

Thai food from different regions of Thailand vary - curries from Southern Thailand use coconut milk, while those from the NorthEast use lime juice. Regardless, all Thai dishes are known for using fresh herbs instead of dried herbs.

Rice is usually the main dish in Thai meals, with curries and other dishes and side servings. Most Thai dishes use additional spicy herbs to add flavor.

Although popularly considered as a single cuisine, Thai food would be more accurately described as four regional cuisines corresponding to the four main regions of the country: Northern, Northeastern (or Isan), Central, and Southern, each cuisine sharing similar foods or derived from those of neighboring countries. Southern curries, for example, tend to contain coconut milk and fresh turmeric, while northeastern dishes often include lime juice. The cuisine of Northeastern (or Isan) Thailand is heavily influenced by Laos. Many popular dishes eaten in Thailand were originally Chinese dishes which were introduced to Thailand mainly by Teochew people who make up the majority of the Thai Chinese. Such dishes include jokkway teow rad nakhao kha moo (also known as moo pa-loh) and khao mun gai.

Thai food is known for its enthusiastic use of fresh (rather than dried) herbs and spices as well as fish sauce. Thai food is popular in many Western countries.

Sweet, sour, hot, spicy, you name it, they have it. Not only is Thai food delicious, it is colorful and entertaining. I love taking guests and friends to Thai restaurants where a feast doesn't end just with the main meal but with a sumptuous Thai dessert buffet! Spectacular!      Some classic Thai dishes are: Tom Yam Kung Pad Thai Green, Red and Yellow Curry Pineapple Rice
