If you have ever driven to Las Vegas, or north on the 15 leaving California, you'll have seen the Desperado Roller Coaster on the side of the road right as you enter Nevada. I've driving by it countless time going to and from Las Vegas and finally I stopped to give it a try.

I was very skeptical at how good of a roller coaster it could be. I mean come on, some sketchy roller coaster in the middle of nowhere? To ride once cost $8 but you can buy an all day pass for $30. I have no idea why you'd want to stay all day at Buffalo Bill's Hotel and Casino in the middle of nowhere but hey, to each his own.

The great part right off the bat was there was no line. I was able to ride in the best part of the train which is the seat farthest in the back. This makes the drop more intense. Only downfall is if someone in front of you pukes. Yep, it's getting all over you.

Anyways, the ascent is pretty easy. You go up really high, but it's the first drop that is intense! I would have to equate it to the first drop on Goliath at Six Flags Magic Mountain, but maybe just a little more intense. After the drop the rest of the ride is just a blur. You are still trying to comprehend that you just free fell 225 feet straight down at 80mph at some rinky dink casino roller coaster in the middle of the Nevada desert and lived, that you seem to forget that the rest of the ride actually hurts until you get off the coaster and feel the pain.

A bit rickety and bumpy and if you aren't holding on in the right places you could smash your face on the seat in front of you but it's all in a day's fun. I would highly recommend riding the Desperado Roller Coaster if you can. Once is good enough and I recommend riding it on the way home from a long Vegas trip. It make the long car ride home more enjoyable. Trust me!

The Desperado's a legend. At one point it may have been one of the biggest roller coaster drops in the world. I haven't driven to Vegas in 10 years, but if you drive, a quick stop to ride the coaster is practically a must.

A roller coaster connected to a hotel in the middle of the desert is definitely unique!! Sounds like this ride would make me sick - you wouldn't want me sitting in front of you:) Did you have a chance to check out the hotel?

Ok, I'm convinced. I am going to stop and give it a try the next time I drive over to Vegas.

I've driven by so many times and never stopped. I'll have to make a point of it next time. I've only done the New York New York roller coaster in Vegas, and I thought it was pretty good for a "Casino Roller Coaster".
