Reading a Gene Wolfe novel takes commitment. He has the most extensive vocabulary of anyone writing today. But believe me, the commitment is worth it! One of the top three sci-fi authors alive today.

A really, REALLY good writer, albeit a very challenging read. Be prepared to invest time and energy into Wolfe's novels.

Brilliant at short work. Some of his novels don't quite cut it, but "The Book of the New Sun" forgives all sins.

The cognoscenti who know of Wolfe are not too common, but I challenge you to become one of us. Pick up the Torturer books and prepare to have your mind blown. There's a reason some people say Wolfe is the greatest English-language writer of the second half of the 20th century, regardless of genre. Yeah, he really is that good and his prose and structural skills are dazzling.
