This film is kinda funny in a very dark way but much of it is pretty humurous. Julian Sands really made a great Shelley. Gabriel Byrne was good also as Lord Byron.

Timothy Spall felt miscast to me though. I would have preferred a young Alan Rickman or someone who resembled Polidori better and could really pull of his internal conflict.

I think Spall is a great actor but that's not to suggest someone else couldn't have done it better. I watched this one a lot when it first came out on VHS tape. I love the atmosphere man. It's killer.

I mainly remember these images of people wandering through the mansion hallways and looking out at the courtyard while it was raining. Wasn't there also some supernatural stuff in front of a fireplace?

Oh yeah, there were some very hallucinatory images. I particularly liked their takes of phantasmagoria. The ending has a really cool dream sequence in which Mary sees how each one of them will die. I think they could have conjured some sort of evil that evening but perhaps it was just the drugs they had been using.
