It's my 50th review. What should I write about, I thought to myself?
And the first thing that comes to mind, McBook Air.
I reckon there would have been some reviews on it on Lunch by now. But was I surprised! Me, the first?
Oh, wow....

McBook Air was touted as the thinnest notebook in the world in 2008 and it was then in May that I bought this notebook. In fact, I even took it with me on my trip to the Grand Canyon. It was in safekeeping with the staff when I was doing my "skywalk"! And thereafter, I lugged it with me around the West Rim with my cameras and all other usual stuff. It was a breeze carrying it around on my back, I must say. Light... just like air!

However, buying it and carrying it is one thing. Using it is another. Before I get onto that, the best thing about McBook Air is probably the fact that it makes a fashion statement, esp. at internet cafes or lounges. It's attractive and captivating. I've strangers coming to take a look and wowing at this innovative machine. It's certainly one of a kind, well at least it was in 2008! Until the next new invention from Apple, that is.

The practicality of this machine lies in whether you are a Mac user or not. If you are not, don't go buy it. You won't convert yourself just like you won't convert from a Buddhist to a Christian or vice versa. Perhaps that's even more probable. Let's say you won't convert from a Christian to a Hindus is more like it! Hence, I found my use of the Air is limited to that of a netbook. That's a very EXPENSIVE netbook to be lugging around! So, it's not value for money where I'm concerned. But I'm an early adopter and I love all things innovatively new. That's the only reason for buying MY McBook Air. I hope it's not yours!

Perhaps the good thing out of this is I did learned my lesson. I haven't got my iPhone yet! Not even now that the 3G version is out. Is that a mistake? Perhaps. With the recessionary environment in the world, I suppose the best thing out of it is I'd think twice before I splurge my money on these machines again!  Design wise, kudos to Apple and Steve Jobs! None can beat them although Sony does come a very close second. And I've the Sony SR25 too! ;-)

For the Apple enthusiasts, don't go buy the Mcbook Air. The next in thing is just around the corner... a dream is a wish your heart makes! And it's Steve Jobs' job to make that comes true............ with, the laptop without keyboard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You're awesome for reviewing this!  I've been lugging around a gigantic 17" laptop for the past few years, so I'm now in the market for a new one, and the MacBook Air is one of the ones that I've been considering.  You make some good points about who should, and shouldn't get this.  I never was a Mac user, but I, too, am mainly attracted to its looks and innovative design and technology and would mainly use it as a netbook.  I'm also considering the Dell Mini, but I'm going to go to the Apple Store and check this out first.

By the way, congrats on your 50th review!  And I love The Onion ;)

Thanks, Debbie! It might be better to wait for the one with no keyboard though. Since you are a Mac user, you probably should stick to Mac. I've a Dell too (1420, not Dell mini although I'm very much tempted to get one!) and it has a good LCD screen. The best after Sony's.
