Lack of respect, wrong attitude, failure to obey authority! Welcome to the world of Vic and Blood.

A Boy and His Dog is a highly entertaining film directed by long time character actor L.Q. Jones adapting the short story of the same name from Science Fiction writer Harlan Ellison.  This 1974 release stars Don Johnson as Vic who travels the post apocalyptic wastelands with his highly intelligent dog  Blood who communicates with him telepathically.  The two friends look for food, women and trying to stay alive.  Life after the war is not very pleasant as the two lean upon one another to survive.  One day after an attack from some savage nomads, Vic rescues a young woman who's been living underground in a strange utopia that's in the need of a young guy who'll save their underground civilization from extinction.  Vic is ready to go but Blood is wary of these underground people who may want to exploit Vic in more ways than one.

I really like this movie.  The gritty feel really brings forth the wasteland of a post world war America.  A land filled with starving bands of people, mutants and savage raiders.  Those that are "fortunate" live in a totalitarian underground societies.  For a first time director L.Q. Jones does a remarkable job and I wished he made a few more films.  He really has talent in front of and behind the camera.  Don Johnson was perfect as the naive and hot blooded Vic who's not very bright and has a tendency to think with his little brother more so than with with bigger one.  I recommend this movie for those who like science fiction films or Post apocalyptic ones.  You can't go wrong with A Boy and His Dog.
