Assault on Precinct 13 (2005)

A movie directed by Jean-François Richet

Action buffs will have a fine time with the spray of bullets, shattering glass, and pyrotechnic silliness that makes up the bulk ofAssault on Precinct 13. Updated from the little-known cops-and-robbers classic John Carpenter made in 1976 (two years before … see full wiki

Assault on Precinct 13 is a satisfying remake. Instead of trying to do a bad copy, the film makers decided to use the basic plot and structure of the original and build around it. The directing was up to snuff and he writing wasn't bad. Laurence Fishburne is a bad dude as Bishop, a no nonsense criminal who'll do what ever he can to survive. Ethan Hawke was adequate as Wilson, a cop who survived an incident when he went undercover. Drea de Matteo, Brian Dennehy and Gabriel Byrne (sans accent) also …

Though this type of story has been done many times (corrupt cops have to silence those who know about them before they are exposed) this movie is very "watch able" and tense throughout. This is probably due to the excellent acting of Ethan Hawke (as a cop that takes a desk job after making bad decisions that cost his partners their lives) and Larry Fishburne (as a mob boss that has the goods on the corrupt cops).     Basically it is New Years eve and Fisburne and a few other …

If you were to take every cops and robbers cliché you could think of, and throw them into a blender with plot contrivances, stereotypes and some horrible dialogue, you'd probably come up with something a little better than this forgettable movie.     Totally devoid of logic, the movie stretches every tenuous premise to the limit, and only the frantic machinations of popular actors Ethan Hawke, Laurence Fishburne and Brian Dennehy make it worth watching at all.     Hawke …

Assault on Precinct 13 starring Ethan Hawke and Laurence Fishburne is a good action movie. Hawke stars as Police Sergeant Jake Roenick who is in charge of Precinct 13, a station that is about to be demolished. He is in charge of a skeleton shift on New Year's Eve when a van carrying a group of baddies to jail is forced to take shelter because of a blizzard. Among the baddies is Marion Bishop, played by Fishburne. He's a major bad guy who is responsible for the deaths of Hawke's team from an undercover …

I was surprised how much I got sucked into this movie! I have not seen the original nor do I care to, it has not spoiled my movie watching experice, I have imagination and a brain, I can enjoy this withouth knocking it down.    I loved the suspence that kept up through out the whole movie and the familiar characters I liked in previous movies, Hawke, Fishburne, Byrne, Bello to name a few, and how the loyalties between the good cops, bad cops and criminals kept changing through …

ASSAULT ON PRECINCT 13 is as riddled with naysayers as it is with the legions of bullets flying through the air: it seems many folks just don't like re-makes of old movies! True, one wonders with all of the fine new scripts languishing in the To Be Read bin why Hollywood elects to buff up old ideas so often. In the case of this film the story is worth re-telling, if only as a reminder that corruption has seeped into every form of public service - and that is something we must all address.    The …
