test
I was waiting to write this review for a while because I had only seen it in 3D. I was utterly amazed because it was the first 3D movie I had ever seen. I wanted to go straight home and write a review giving it a +5 rating. Upon talking with others who had seen the movie and reading various criticisms and analyzes of the film, I began to doubt my initial reaction. Was I letting the CGI effects and the 3D elements hype the movie to a level it didn't deserve? So, I was determined …

James Cameron, it seems to me, creates wonderful dishware in which to place the most nourishing and satisfying of those things we humans crave. All those J. Cameron-imprinted tureens and goblets took rare imagination and meticulous craftsmanship to make. Just one piece can cost a Wall Street banker's annual bonus. They boggle. But look inside that tureen and there ain't no vichyssoise. Take Avatar.       This is one of the most beautiful movies you'll ever hope …

Fly me to the moon
It’s when Adventure meets Art,  you’ve got the human spirit all throughout this film. The good, the bad.   Learning is a way of life. Innocence is inherent. Trust in the invisible and the unknown. The spirit within each living thing. Every day is an adventure. Entertainment at its summit!   A Dreamland. A Wonderful World. A Stunning Visual. An Incredible Imagination. A World beyond words …

Great Ride & Groundbreaking Movie!
Well, here goes nothing.  I've not really done movie reviews before, and honestly am intimidated to a degree by the major film buffs who are incredibly adept at breaking down plots, themes, and drawing parallels to other films.  This is simply my totally novice, average schmo-ette attempt to share my thoughts ... so please be kind : )      My main take-aways: This will be the Star Wars for my young daughter's generation. I wanted to BECOME one of …

"Frank, when's this gonna stop?"   "You should already know that."      And I smelt, as it were, the stench of CGI: One of the four beasts saying: "Best ever." And I saw. And behold, a blue alien.      There's a 3-D gimmick goin' 'round takin' names. An' he decides who to free and who to blame. Everybody won't be treated all the same. There'll be a golden ladder reaching down. …

*** out of ****   James Cameron knows how to build hype. He also knows how to spend money very well. “Avatar” is the result of how Cameron spends his time and money, being a technical masterpiece but none the less a terribly familiar trip. Sure, it’s very engaging. Sure, it looks pretty. But when watching it, I noticed that everything Cameron shows or does is something that has been done before. Some of his choices often result in “Avatar” being very predictable …

Thats Right I Didn't like this movie
Avatar is your basic outsider/broken dude finds himself in a place he dosent belong/fit in. And after being there a while he finds himself and he's a new man. Avatar felt like a play it safe movie to me. It was predictable and we've literally seen movies like this a thousand times. The 3-D in my opinion didnt really add anything to the film. So after all that why am I giving this movie a 3 and a half? Because Avatar is one of the most awe-inspiring movies Ive seen in a long time. I loved …

Avatar: relegates Lord of the Rings to 'old hat'
I bow to our friend, who prefaced his astonished and profound appreciation of the Avatar movie with "It drives me nuts.." (that they have to include the dominator thing.....) "But...."      The conversation that ensued resulted in all 8 of us (4 couples) going to IMax for the experience (that one couple's second viewing). We came out of there with 'sea legs' and we're still re-orienting.      It's significant in my little Universe …

4 ½ + Stars: Absorbing Fantasy Adventure and Thought-Povoking Themes Make This a Blockbuster!
Let’s get one thing out of the way, James Cameron’s “AVATAR” is the most expensive film ever made; with a staggering budget of $ 230 million (there’s a rumor that they ended up spending $ 260 mil), expectations for the film is very high. Cameron had impressed me with “Aliens”, “The Abyss”, Terminator and T2: Judgment Day” but I decided to keep my expectations low. He won …

The Greatest Science Fiction Epic of All Time!
James Cameron has outdone himself!  He may have actually outdone the whole entire film industry.  Never in my life have I seen a film so brilliant and beautiful that it made me rethink the whole way in which I look at film.  Avatar is what movies are all about; transporting you into the film and making you feel as if you're really there.  Mr. Cameron has accomplished that with they way in which he has revolutionized the 3D genre of filmmaking.  Avatar isn't just another …

It's been years since James Cameron released a film.  The last movie we got from James Cameron was the mega-huge blockbuster Titanic way back in 1997.  When you make the biggest grossing film ever, you normally have to follow that up with something big.  For James Cameron it's Avatar.  An idea he's been tinkering with for over a decade (since before he even released Titanic, in fact).  This is the time when Cameron's film could finally be done.  When he first got the …

One of my English teachers and I got into it repeatedly regarding several of my writings during high school. It frustrated me because I felt that my stuff was genereally better than anything else submitted under the given conditions. As my time there came to a close, the instructor informed me that he was harder on me because he held me to a higher standard. That's how I feel about James Cameron.      Consider this list (Cameron wrote as well as directed): …

Epic Brilliance Not Seen Before
I went into this film with not much expectation if I'm honest. Even though it was a massive success in the box office and with critics, I just couldn't see myself enjoying it, but I must say I loved every minute. The special effects are really something astonishing in creating the world of Pandora, the Na'vi and everything else in between, but the story itself, although brilliant seemed fairly cliché and could have offered so much more had Cameron spent a little more time putting the story …

Watching Avatar is in every way as impressive as when you first saw the dirty spaceships in Star Wars or - I would imagine - seeing color or hearing sound on celluloid for the first time. It's not so much that you haven't see 3D before - previously, it's always felt like its purpose is to continually poke you in the eye with objects - but this time, it immerses the viewer in a way that breaks down the barrier between where the edges of the film stop and the audience sits.      …

I KNOW I AM LATE TO REVIEWING THIS BUT...I MUST SAY THE VISUALS BUMP THIS 3 STAR STORY UP TO 4
AVATAR      I finally came across this film and finally felt the need to see it [I say finally like it was yesterday, it has been a while since I watched this, of course I watched this when it was released, anyway], I knew it had been overly hyped and had a feeling I would not like it. So when I finally decided to get it I can honestly say that while I did like it is far from the greatest film ever. Of course like any one will tell you visually it is …

This film tells you to not mess with Mothers Natures warriors
“Avatar” is a very good movie that sadly falls short of greatness through the 2 1/2 hours which I sat down to watch with my family, My eyes were quite simply glued to the screen all the way through and by the time it ended it left us wanting more, and both my kids wouldn't stop talking about it all night. Cameron does what he has always done best and his shortcomings are in his weak area, script and plot development. Everything about “Avatar” is perfect except …

Let me come clean right up front here, so opposed to the hype surrounding Avatar was I that I literally refused to stand in line with the drones that flocked to the theatres a few months back.  Friends of mine went down one by one, succumbing to the propaganda, the rave reviews, the hoopla but alas I was steadfast in my resolve.  Hype, or so I’ve concluded throughout the years, is a film destroyer.  It has the capacity for raising expectations beyond what’s achievable …

Okay, first of all, I'd like to say that when I watched this, I didn't have high expectations for it and even with that mindset, I still felt quite cheated when Avatar was over. What really amazes me is that this is the biggest box office success in cinema history, even though this movie wasn't groundbreaking in any area, save for those graphics, but great graphics alone never make a great movie. Avatar is no different from the overpriced, mindless swill that Michael Bay, Jerry Bruckheimer, …

Let me get this out of the way first: Avatar is the best 3D movie ever made. Although it doesn't quite deliver on the lofty "revolution in film-making" claims made by director James Cameron, it is definitely the best example of the technology to date. I went into this movie with quite a lot of expectation and I'm glad to say that I didn't leave the cinema disappointed. There is so much to admire about Avatar, mainly from a technical and visual standpoint. The skill and attention to detail …

First of all, it is stunningly beautiful.  The computer genius it took to produce will being helping everyday technology along for years to come. My daughter the biology major and I both were awed and intrigued by the detail of the plant life. The face painter in me saw some beautiful paintwork in the detailing of the avatar that can be traced back to early 2000’s and the rise of some awesome body and face painting artists in Europe. Looking at the faces of  of the Na’Vi tribe …

Breathing New Life into Occupied Territory
If you've seen Dances with Wolves, The Last Samurai, Glory, 10,000 BC or any movie where an indigenous population is roused to rebellion with the help of a sympathetic white defector who might also represent the enemy then you haven't seen Avatar. I say "haven't" because where James Cameron's imagination soars is that he's taken this highly treaded theme and turned it into a work of science-fiction. If it's been done before in this genre, I haven't seen it.      I don't …

One of the greatest films of the decade...
James Cameron has created a visionary style of film making that has yet to be surpassed or ever will. He has taken us to worlds unknown and showed us true terror in Aliens(1986), He gave to us a new and visionary  look at the end of humanity  in Terminator(1984)  and  then again for   what everyone thought was the last time  he showed us  what love and tragedy really truly looked like in Titanic(1996). Now it's 2009 almost 12 years after the …

Is “Not Bad” good enough?      That’s really the question when it comes to assessing the quality of Avatar, James Cameron’s first film in over a decade. His first major theatrical release since Titanic, it has been obvious for a long time that Cameron and the studios had every intention of making Avatar as much of a blockbuster epic as its Oscar-winning Leonardo DiCaprio-starring predecessor.    After two successful …

By now everyone recognizes that "Avatar" is a blockbuster example of the art of cutting edge film-making. Whether or not they think the story-line brings the movie up to the level of its most obvious competitors, "Lord of the Rings" and "Star Wars" is a matter of personal opinion. But, it's safe to say that there is hardly anyone in North America who hasn't heard about Avatar and who hasn't got some sort of inkling as to what that story-line is.   …
