Where it lacks in story and charceter devoplment it makes up with outstanding visuals.

Visual crack, decent story, way too loooong. Definitely not Cameron's best work in my opinion, but well worth a watch.

Visually stunning but intelligance insulting story of a man who becomes an alien and finds love only to turn on his fellow man, but they were assholes so it's okay. Painfully obvious parallells to real life events make this obvious to see what angle they're working on.

Should have been called 'Dances with Wolves in Space'. The stunning graphics are the only thing original about this yawnfest.

I'm not really into scifi movies but was hearing the hype about this movie from all my friends. My husband and I decided to check it out in 3D ofcourse making it quite the movie "experience." I absolutely loved the graphics and visuals and the story line was very moving as well. What struck me the most was paraplegic Jack Sulley's new ability to walk and run as he is granted a mental link with a scientifically created Na'vi human hybrid and the freedom he finds living and interacting with the Na'vi …

Ambitious. Impressive. Too bad it tanked so hard at the BO. Hope Cameron doesn't become discouraged.

i love the way the humans try to relate to the others. i think that jack or whatever his name was found the one place he was really looking for.

After never watching it in theaters (against the recommendations of everyone I knew who HAD seen it), I finally got around to watching this. It was a decent movie and I'd recommend people to watch it - I'm guessing since I missed out on all the cool and epic 3D effects, I'm missing part of what makes this such a big hit, but for me it was just a decent film.

Lovely
It is the year 2154, and Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) arrives on the planet Pandora, which is home to a rare mineral needed back on earth.  Scientists there have created "avatars" which are a cross between humans and the indigenous blue Na'vi people; Sully is asked to use his avatar to befriend the locals and get them to leave the area so mining can expand.        The movie blends live actors and computer-generated scenes …

If you are open to new movies that are not following the trend (repeats or rehashes of tv shows or older movies) and like to have an adventurous scifi side, this movie might be for you. It's not so outlandish and farfetched and you can see the meaning behing the movie. It's very long, but it doesn't drag. Open your mind and listen to the message contained inside and you will find it an enjoyable movie!

In ten years people will look back and mark the release of Avatar as a moment that everything changed.  Movies that don't use motion capture computer generated imaging (CGI) will not be able to compete with movies that do.  TrueD is a better 3D system and will be used to a much greater extent in years to come, but the seamless blending of live film and CGI is the real breakthrough.      In not-too-many years, we will have a new western (or other action genre) starring …

Take the Story of The Last Samuari or Dances With Wolves move it tothe future add some excellent CGI and make it 3D for good measure and you have this movie. This time around the Earth is a dying planet and a group of scientists and military are interested in a specific mineral (maybe dilithium crystals?) from the planet of the Navi. They are a large humanoid species that live in a ecological system where all forms of life seem to be connected to each other and everyone worships a tree God called …

Pros: Special effects are mind-altering.     Cons: Nothing worth noting.     The Bottom Line: Avatar is a visual and emotional feast that should be experienced as often as you dare.     James Cameron is known for his big epic movies; remember Titanic (1997) the highest grossing movie of all time?  Mr. Cameron hasn't directed and or produced a feature film since Titanic played itself out grossing some 1.8 billion dollars worldwide.   &nb …

Lovely theme presented with a fabulous usage of technology. Could spot flaws here and there and no marks for those who did. All credit to the team behind the screen - makes you identify yourself with the subject and then end up fighting for it. My first 3D movie and I will be seeing this again.

Overly pretty and lush to look at but hollow and manipulative scifi adventure which is the very essance of white guilt if you think about it. Could redifine GUILTY pleasure.

Pros: True eye-candy.  The color blue and waterfalls (very personal favorite things).      Cons: The story is so bad my personal narrative got sucked dry for hours after      The Bottom Line: I had to say it is worth full price because the visual quality.  But I cannot stress enough just how bad, terrible, horrible, loathsome, even felonious the story is.      I must put this disclaimer at the beginning: I did not (for a couple …
