I saw James Cameron's "Avatar" on its opening weekend. With all of the hype surrounding the film I expected it to be either A) one of the greatest films ever made or B) just another visual feast with a hollow plot. It turns out that it was actually a visual feast with a plot stuffed to the brink with borrowed ideas from other films including many of Cameron's own previous projects.      The film's basic plot is that a human mining company has arrived on …

what can I say - eye-popping but predictable flick set a new standard for CGI.

Pros: Well directed, scenery is beautiful, a 40-minute climax where James Cameron blows stuff up     Cons: The preceding two hours - dead disbelief suspension and moral-whipping     The Bottom Line: Avatar's acclaim keeps my faith in humanity from getting too high.     You know, it's usually actors who are associated with chewing the scenery. James Cameron's highly acclaimed, 12-years-in-the-making spectacle Avatar is a breathtaking example …

The world created in this movie is incredible! I would love to live on pandora. James Cameron did a great job at utilizing the 3D tech.

Avatar is very clean on the eyes. And impresses the audience with it's stunning animations. It is a story of a marine that is put into another dimension to cooperate with the Navi community in order to build and co-exist with the humans.      The main character ends up not just wanting to co-exist, but live with them without the humans interference.      Long story short, it's a great movie to see with the family, and if you see it in …

It's best not to compare Avatar 3-D to an ordinary movie. It's more like one of those rides at an amusement park, where you put on 3-D glasses and sit in a moving chair, or like an Imax event, where what you really want is not so much a story but an experience, to see something new, something you've never seen before. Most of those films do not really have brilliant stories behind them, and the narration in Imax films is usually pretty preachy, but what you get from them is a few moments of immersion, …

James Cameron has made the most fun, exhilarating thriller movie of the year. I came into the theater, remembering the critics praise and the buzz of everyone saying that the movie was awesome. So I had high expectations, but I mean really really high. Even with such high expectation, the movie manages to exceed them.      The plot is simple. But in a way it’s organized and crafted superbly, you are guaranteed to have fun. Yes it’s a little bit obvious but do not …

Visual crack, decent story, way too loooong. Definitely not Cameron's best work in my opinion, but well worth a watch.

Visually stunning but intelligance insulting story of a man who becomes an alien and finds love only to turn on his fellow man, but they were assholes so it's okay. Painfully obvious parallells to real life events make this obvious to see what angle they're working on.

Should have been called 'Dances with Wolves in Space'. The stunning graphics are the only thing original about this yawnfest.

I'm not really into scifi movies but was hearing the hype about this movie from all my friends. My husband and I decided to check it out in 3D ofcourse making it quite the movie "experience." I absolutely loved the graphics and visuals and the story line was very moving as well. What struck me the most was paraplegic Jack Sulley's new ability to walk and run as he is granted a mental link with a scientifically created Na'vi human hybrid and the freedom he finds living and interacting with the Na'vi …

Ambitious. Impressive. Too bad it tanked so hard at the BO. Hope Cameron doesn't become discouraged.

After never watching it in theaters (against the recommendations of everyone I knew who HAD seen it), I finally got around to watching this. It was a decent movie and I'd recommend people to watch it - I'm guessing since I missed out on all the cool and epic 3D effects, I'm missing part of what makes this such a big hit, but for me it was just a decent film.

Lovely
It is the year 2154, and Jake Sully (Sam Worthington) arrives on the planet Pandora, which is home to a rare mineral needed back on earth.  Scientists there have created "avatars" which are a cross between humans and the indigenous blue Na'vi people; Sully is asked to use his avatar to befriend the locals and get them to leave the area so mining can expand.        The movie blends live actors and computer-generated scenes …
