Captain Kronos - Vampire Hunter is indeed an oddity among vampire films and in the canon of Hammer horror films. The film doesn't star either Christopher Lee or Peter Cushing, it doesn't contain the usual bloodsucking antics of vampires, and it bends if not breaks most of the rules of the horror genre... and yet somehow it works in an eccentrically brilliant fashion. By 1974 Hammer Films was in its death throes, its films had become formulaic--boring and predictable.
