If there's a volcano, I'm in (not literally).

I used to absolutely love Dante's Peak because I went through a period of childhood where I was truly obsessed with volcanoes. I read about them all the time and had even bookmarked dozens "volcano-cams" in Internet Explorer. I still love volcanoes, but not to the degree where I check volcano-cams 30 times a day.

Dante's Peak came out at the height of my obsession and I fell in love. I remember the agonizing 6 months between seeing it in theatres and buying it on VHS. But as I got older, I realized the acting wasn't all that great, and there were pretty significant plot holes here and there. But nonetheless, it's a pretty scientifically-accurate disaster movie (far better than Volcano in that regard) that does a good job depicting how a powerful volcanic eruption could wreak havoc on nearby towns. Plus, it's nice to see Pierce Brosnan in a non-killing role for once.

In sum, it ain't that great but is worth it if you want to see some cool Hollywood effects and learn more about nature's destructive capabilities.
