The Dark Kingom is one of the large spate of swordplay movies that have come out since the LOTR trilogy. This one focuses on old Norse legends from the centuries just before the Middle Ages. Siegfried just escapes the destruction of his father's kingdom and is adopted by a blacksmith. He grows up to be a stout, smart, and athletic young man, and has a one night stand with Brunhild; queen of Iceland, that just happens to be the first time for each of them. She goes back to her kingdom to await him. …

Though its budget is a mere drop in the water compared to films such as "The Lord of the Rings" and "The Chronicles of Narnia," "Dark Kingdom" is a rather well-made fantasy flick. Since "Rings" was inspired by the legend that this film is based on, the viewer will notice a number of similarities between the two.
