A movie directed by D.J. Caruso

Alfred Hitchcock fans may experience déjà vu upon exposure to this voyeuristic thriller. That's because director DJ Caruso (The Salton Sea) and co-writer Carl Ellsworth (Red Eye) useRear Windowas a jumping-off point before cherry-picking … see full wiki

I'm surprised the lawsuit from the owners of Rear Window has taken so long, since it took us about 15 minutes to scream 'rip-off'. Apart from the really strange name, Disturbia is Rear Window but without good acting, direction, plot, logic, suspense or surprise. There are several key takeaways for this movie:   Shia The Beef has never been in a good film. Girls love it when you spy on them undressing - with binoculars. Your average suburban house has a subterranean torture chamber that's …

Basically anything that's considered "trashy," like reality TV and deep-fried foods, is what I enjoy. So that means I liked Disturbia, but in general, I feel it could have been a better movie had it been done with different, perhaps older, actors.    To me, it's all too common that a teenager's rants and accusations wouldn't be listened to anyways, so in this movie's case it's the same. A teen under house arrest begins to spy on his neighbors and suspects that one of them is …

Prepare to be scared: "Disturbia" is an effective and enjoyable thriller. 17-year old Kale (Shia LaBeouf) has experienced a terrible tragedy and, as a result, has quite a temper. He finds himself sentenced to three months of house arrest and must wear a GPS on his ankle. Just when making sculptures out of Twinkies starts getting old, a cute girl moves in next door, and Kale uses his binoculars to keep a close eye on her. She becomes a pal and together they watch their reclusive neighbor Mr. Turner …

There was a teenager named Kale   whose actions went beyond the pale   The death of his Dad   took a toll on the lad   But it spared him hard time in the jail       Instead he's confined to his home   with boundaries where he can roam   but it wasn't that hard   to mark out the yard   Using string and an old garden gnome       At home now with nothing to do …

After the death of Kale's father in a car accident (in which Kale was driving) he falls behind in school. Later, back in school, he punches a teacher who mentions his father. Kale is then put under house arrest with an ankle bracelet to track his movement. His mother disconnects his iTunes, computer games, and TV, so Kale passes his time by spying on all his neighbors, including the new and very beautiful girl next door, Ashley.     Ashley comes by to make friends with Kale and …

Pros: Great performance by young Shia LaBeouf.      Cons: See Review     The Bottom Line: For the younger set Disturbia is for you, my generation need not apply. Now where’s my copy of Rear Window?      Plot Details: This opinion reveals major details about the movie's plot. Shia LaBeouf is a really talented actor; a little annoying at times, but a real talent. He makes an otherwise lackluster movie like Disturbia tolerable. Let’s face …

I couldn't help comparing Disturbia with the Burbs and Rear Window.     There is some great humor in Disturbia along with the horror and creepiness.     With several scenes that are hard to shake from your thoughts late at night when you can't sleep and the house starts to make noises, Disturbia delivers on the suspense and thrills.     I appreciated the restraint it showed in language, gore and sex. There are some elements that parents …

"Disturbia" isn't original. It isn't too scary or gory either. What it is, though, is a fun popcorn yarn about a teen named Kale (Shia LeBeouf) who's placed under house arrest for taking out a little internal anguish on a Spanish teacher. His mother (Carrie-Anne Moss) takes away his television, his music and his X-box. What's a bored teen living in suburbia to do to pass the time? Spy on the neighbors, of course. It helps that his newest neighbor, Ashley (Sarah Roemer), is a knockout and takes regularly …

Disturbia proves to be a good thriller that provides some pleasant entertainment. It may not be original (which has been pointed out endlessly) but at least it offers a good time. I believe D.J. Caruso did a nice job behind the camera. He took about fifty minutes to build the story up and develop the characters before releasing the suspense. There was plenty of suspense in the last thirty minutes or so in the movie and it was more than just "gotcha" scares but actual suspense which really made the …

Based on Alfred Hitchcock's `Rear Window,' `Disturbia' has all the hardware you'd might expect. Instead of just binoculars and an old fashioned flash camera, we have cell phones, computers, and video cameras. Not just relying on technology, the movie is a thoroughly enjoyable voyeur fantasy. Starting from "the girl next door" to unsettling sights across the way, Kane (Shia LaBeouf), an older adolescent, has had troubled times. With a father dead in an auto accident in which Kane was present, he …

DISTURBIA is a fine little thriller of a movie. Though some viewers are commenting that it is merely a takeoff on REAR WINDOW and finding it not up to that caliber - and if that bothers potential viewers then be advised, for this viewer it is more a film that addresses our progressive invasion of privacy by high tech instruments, and as such the film makes an important statement. Writers Christopher Landon and Carl Ellsworth have produced a solid script that manages to capture teenage angst and …
