Just as bad as you remember!

If you asked most "Doctor Who" fans which Doctor has the most stories based around him, most would say Tom Baker. They'd be wrong. If you count the novels and the Big Finish Audio Adventures, the Doctor who has the most stories based around him is the Eighth Doctor. That's saying something given that his one and only on screen appearance was... this. Yes, it's the Eighth Doctor movie, in all its horrible glory. Everything you remember is here, from the Seventh Doctor's pointless death, to the Eighth Doctor kissing Grace, to the Master acting as a one-man gay pride parade, oh, yes. It's all here.

This movie really is strange. It's got elements of the Old Series, elements of the New Series and a lot of weirdness unique to itself. I can't bring myself to hate it, though it richly deserves my hate, because frankly Paul McGann is amazing, and without this movie we wouldn't have had him. There's a lot of little things about it that can be enjoyed, too, like the redesigned TARDIS interior and the insanely cute Chang Lee. But really, if you haven't seen this movie before, you're not much missing much. A friend of mine likes the old and new series, but can't force himself to sit through this. It's really quite bad.

But on the plus side there's a raft of nice extras on this DVD, including two commentaries, the only "Stripped for Action" we'll have for this Doctor, a documentary on the Dark Times when there was no "Who" on TV and much more.

So if you're a fan of the series, I do recommend getting this DVD. The movie is pretty bad, but the Doctor always rocks, and the special features make it worthwhile.
