Regardless of its critical roasting,Dreamcatcheris a must-see for Stephen King fans. In adapting King'sepic novel(itself an amalgam of familiar King plotlines), director Lawrence Kasdan and cowriter William Goldman sacrificed much of the character depth that gave the story its crucial humanity, resulting in a tame frightfest about four longtime friends (Damian Lewis, Jason Lee, Thomas Jane, Timothy Olyphant) whose past--and a shared gift of telepathy--connects them to a present-day alien invasion in the snowy forests of Maine. Like an ambitious episode ofThe X-Files, this slick production offers slimy "weasels" that gestate in human bowels; ominous aliens who seize control of bodies and minds; a secret military strike (led by Morgan Freeman) against the invaders; and enough gross-out humor to satisfy jaded horror buffs. Unfortunately, it just isn't scary. Despite its A-list advantages,Dreamcatcherworks best as a glorified B-movie, likely to benefit from lowered expectations.--Jeff Shannon

STEPHEN KING'S   DREAMCATCHER      I am a huge Stephen King fan, always have been and always will be. So when this film was being advertised I was all excited about it. I had really enjoyed the book and this film would have two of my favorite actors in it, Jason Lee and of course Morgan Freeman. So I waited for it to come out, I was living in Maryland at the time and a friend of mine up there was …

Over all I thought the movie was good and half of it was strong while the other just wasn't there. The DVD comes with some behind the scenes stuff among other features; I just wish it would have had a commentary. That is the one thing I always look for in DVD's and such.

DREAMCATCHER, as a title, suggests there may be story reasons for spending time watching this movie. Stephen King does know how to spin a tale (as we are reminded in seeing at least one of his books make it to the screen every year). The problem is there just is no story here. A scary movie? No, a very funny spoof of the alien genre duds perhaps. BUT, there are four really good reasons to sit through this otherwise forgetable bit of indigestion: Damien Lewis, Thomas Jane, Jason Lee, and Timothy …

Pros: Interesting Concept.     Cons: Bad script, lines, and acting. Huge Plot Holes.     The Bottom Line: A complete and utter mess and a waste of two hours. The Matrix animated short was the only good thing.     Tucked away in a remote area of a Maine, four friends have gathered to relax and celebrate their friendship as they have done for the past twenty years. The friends are a diverse lot; there is the Psychologist Henry (Thomas Jayne), …
