Delivering exactly what its title promises, this celebration of stupidity was Jim Carrey's 1994 follow-up toAce Ventura: Pet DetectiveandThe Mask. The film pairs the rubber- faced wacky man with Jeff Daniels as the not-so-dynamic duo of Lloyd and Harry, dunderheads who come into the possession of a briefcase containing ransom money that is intended for Mob-connected kidnappers. Lauren Holly costars as the woman who lost the briefcase, and with whom Carrey falls in love (both in real life and as his moronic on-screen character). As Lloyd and Harry make a mad dash to return the briefcase (never aware of its contents), the bumbling buddies attract Mobsters, cops, and trouble galore. This lowbrow laugh-a-thon scores some solid hits for hilarity, but with gags involving ill-fated parakeets, buxom bimbos, and an overdose of laxatives, be prepared to put your brain--and good taste--on hold.--Jeff Shannon
Please note that this review is referring to the original cut of the movie, not the “unrated” edition. Dumb and Dumber is one of those movies that I enjoyed during my childhood, and even after going through adulthood, is still one that I really enjoy because I still think the jokes are funny. In fact, I think some of the jokes are even funnier to me as an adult than when I was a kid. This is also a good movie to watch when you're not feeling too good because I recently … more
This is another movie I fully watched for the first time in so many years, and it's still a hoot. Just as the title would imply, it's a comedy about two guys that are rock stupid, and the Farrelly brothers did a great job with the humor they attempted. This movie has a lot of funny scenes, but one of my favorites was when Lloyd reveals to Harry that he sold Harry's dead parakeet, Petey, to a blind kid, then they show the blind kid just petting the dead … more
This is a movie about two guys. Ones name is Harry. He is dumb. Lloyd is the other and he's dumber. Put them together and you have Dumb and Dumber. Two guys who fall under the category of "Too dumb to live" yet somehow they do live. Harry and Lloyd are clueless losers who share a crummy apartment in Rhode Island who drift from one job to another since either one of them have just enough brain cells to keep from being in an animal … more
This movie follows the story of two friends as they trek across the country to return a suitcase of a woman with whom Jim Carrey's character experiences a one-sided love-at-first-sight. They don't know her name or where she lives, they are totally broke and down on their luck, yet they are determined to let nothing stop them. I love this movie because it has proven to be one of the most-quoted movies among most people I know, and it continues to be hysterical … more
This movie is about two extremely clueless but lovable guys, Lloyd and Harry, and their cross country adventure to return a briefcase to its rightful owner. Lloyd (Jim Carey), a limo driver, meets his dream woman Mary Sawson while on the job. After their brief meeting and even more brief goodbye, Lloyd realizes Mary's left her briefcase and decides to drag Harry (Jeff Daniels) along on a whirlwind adventure to return it. Their brainless ideas and sloppy logic make their trip bumpy from the beginning. … more
Two lunkheads venture from New England all the way to Aspen CO to return a mystery breifcase to a lovely woman and encounter kidnappers, angry truckers and battle each other's stupidity. Carey is great and Daniels works great as a sidekick.
This is a movie that people either love or hate and more often then not they hate it. However, it is entertaining and has some great one-liners. So, if you are in the mood just to be entertained, it is still worth a gander.
I first saw this movie when I was 4 years old and of course didn't understand it. Today, I still don't understand it but that's OK, it still amuses me.
