ER - Season 11

  • Dec 7, 2010
Pros: casting remains tight, scripts are complete, continuity

Cons: none for me

The Bottom Line:
Michael Crichton 10/23/42 - 11/4/08

Season 11 picks right up where Season 10 left off, Drs. Pratt and Chen, along with a passenger, Elgin, are in the midst of a road rage incident ...

Season 11 episodes include:
One for the Road
As their car barrels down the road, Pratt loses what little control he had and is driving like a fool.  When Elgin 'flips the bird' to the driver of the other car, the driver opens fire and Dr. Chen gets shot.   Pratt's car goes over the bridge, falling into the river, with all three trapped inside.  Chen is trapped in her seat belt, Elgin has no feeling in his lower body.  Things look gloomy for the trio.

Back in the ER, Morris is complaining as always and Luka is no where to be found since he headed out to find Sam and Alex.  Then a call comes in that they are to expect a multi-victim case, not realizing it is their own doctors on the gurneys.

Shane West joins the cast as Dr. Ray Barnett along with a germaphobe, Howard.

Abby has officially started her rotation as a physician while Carter seems to be spiralling out of control since the death of his infant son.

Try Carter
It's 4th of July and the ER is understaffed and flooded with patients.  When a HIV+ biker is declared brain dead, his girlfriend tries to get his organs donated to a friend who is also HIV+.

When two small children are brought in after a fall from a third story window, it is believed the abusive father is at fault.  Dr. Corday is displined for the HIV+ transplant that Carter orchestrated.

Dr. Lewis is made the new Chief of Emergency Medicine and Howard quits his internship.

Madchen Amick guest stars.

An Intern's Guide to the Galaxy
New staff includes Leland Orser as Dr. Dubenko and Sara Gilbert as Intern Jane Figler.

Pratt turns the day into a competition pitting Ray, Abby, & Neela against each other to see who can 'street' the most patients.  It looks like Ray is going to win until it is discovered he donated a patient's organs against the family's wishes.

Carter turns his attention to Wendall [Madchen Amick]

Time of Death
Guest star: Ray Liotta as Charlie Metcalf

Abby, Sam, and Luka spend the day at the side of Charlie Metcalf who entered the hospital with stomach pains but it is discovered he is much sicker.

White Guy, Dark Hair
Sam & Luka treat a woman who was brutually raped and beaten and Dr. Lewis pulls an emergency JCAHO drill without telling the staff.

A Shot in the Dark
As the surviving relative, a teenage boy must make the life/death decision for his father, a police officer shot by friendly fire during a robbery investigation.

'Twas the Night
Abby is faced with a dialysis patient in critical condition but can't reach his doctor who doesn't want to be disturbed during the holidays.  Dr. Chen goes home to care for her ailing father and Pratt visits, finding her struggling with his advancing dementia and abusive behavior.  Carter and Wendall share a kiss.

When Abby steps outside to the ambulance bay for a cigarette, she is kidnapped by a gang and driven away.  One of their members is critically injured and they want Abby to save him.

Only Connect
Guest starring Dan Hedaya as Herb Spivak

Patient satisfaction scores are at their lowest and Drs. Lewis and Kovac try to teach the interns how to communicate with their patients.

The Providers
Guest starring Chad Lowe as Dr. George Henry

When a teenager comes to the ER feeling dizzy, they learn she had a kidney transplant and is on a drug called Zarictal to control seizures.  Carter has Neela post questions on the Internet about the drugs side effects and the pharmaceutical company raises a stink.

Pratt calls in Wendall, the social worker, to investigate a cut on a young boy he is treating and Luka treats a man who got shot by his boss.

Just As I Am

Guest starring Frances Fisher as Dr. Weaver's mother.

Weaver has been trying for years to locate her birth mother and finally meets her but not with the best results.  Her mother, an evangelical Christian, is chagrined to learn Weaver is gay.

Alone in a Crowd
Guest starring Cynthia Nixon as Ellie Shore

When Ellie Shore is brought into the ER she doesn't realize she has suffered a stroke and cannot understand why no one can hear what she is saying.

Wendall tells Carter he must either split his ties with Kem, his African girlfriend, or with Wendall.

Here and There
Dr. Gallant reappears on the scene from Iraq when he escorts a young girl wounded by a car bomb.  Gallant and Neela start a tentative relationship.

Back in the World
Gallant and Neela fail to meet up while he is in town and Sam's ex-husband makes an unexpected visit.

Refusal of Care
Guest starring Louise Fletcher as Roberta 'Birdie' Chadwick

A woman arrives, suffering from hunger strike, but refuses treatment until the INS agrees to give her son a new hearing.

Abby does her best to prove that Birdie Chadwick, 72, is a victim of elder abuse.

Ruby Redux
Guest starring Red Buttons as Mr. Rubadoux

Mr. Rubadoux hasn't forgotten Carter and still blames him for the death of his wife 10 years earlier.

You Are Here
It is hard to believe but Dr. Morris is made the new Chief Resident.

Dr. Lewis fails to get tenure and blames Carter, who did receive his.

Carter est Amoureux
When Carter finds out Kem's mother has been hospitalized in Paris, he drops everything and rushes to her side.  He and Kem have a falling out but he ends up making a life changing decision.

The Show Must Go On
Guest Starring Danny Glover as Charlie Pratt

Carter starts his last shift at County General and as fate would have it, he treats a patient again that he saw on his first shift many years ago.  Afterwards the gang heads over to Ike's, a local hangout, for Carter's going away party.

Meanwhile Drs. Barnett and Morris, who are not attending the party, go to a party of their own.  Barnett was invited, Morris invited himself.  During the festivities a balcony gives way and the crowd is plunged several stories to the street.

Back at Ike's Carter is in the restroom, relieving himself and practicing his going away speech, and returns to the party only to discover everyone has left except for a janitor who is there for the free food and drinks.  They have all returned to the ER to deal with the party-goers tumble.  Carter sits and remembers all the good times while he watches movies showing all the old staff members.

Pratt gets up the courage to confront his long lost father and Sam's son takes off into the night, searching for his own father.

In conclusion:
ER is big on their bang up finales every season and this one was no exception.  One can only hope they continue the stories in Season 12, which is due anytime.   They continue to keep their stories relevant to the times and interesting.
