Yet another disaster film that's won over my heart!

Okay, I'm only giving Earthquake a +2 rating because it isn't that great. But just imagine yourself back in the 1970s seeing all these special effects at the height of Hollywood's fixation on disaster films. You'd have been pretty impressed with everything, especially the fact that they managed to find pretty A-list celebrities to take part in it.

The film is pretty interesting if you enjoy watching films about natural disasters and their effects on man. Likewise, Dante's Peak does a pretty good job of portraying similar themes. I'm not sure how factually accurate Earthquake really is, but if you don't mind taking a trip back in time, pop it in your DVD player and you'll be in for some good laughs and quality entertainment.

I remember reading about the surround sound! Oh, how times have changed.

I did see it during its inital release and it really wasn't all that impressive. The big selling gimmic was the surround sound that was supposed to make it sound like a real earthquake. Big deal. It did siturb everybody in the next theater though.
