Forbidden Games is about a young girl (Paulette) who loses her parents and a pet dog during a Nazi air strike.  In a state of shock she wanders from the road side holding her dead dog.  A young boy (Michel) meets her and they quickly become friends.  But he notices how sad and confused she is about losing her family and starts to help her over come her grief by building a grave for her pet dog.  Paulette doesn't want her dog to be alone so she asks Michel to make a graveyard for animals so it wont be so lonely "in the hole".  These two children decide to play a "forbidden game" that will help them escape from the reality of war and try to cope with loss and death.

Brigitte Fossey stars as Paulette and Georges Poujouly co-stars as Michel.  The two children have such a great chemistry together and are excellent actors.  It's such a sad tale that shows the loss of innocence and the harsh realities of war, death and having to grow up so fast.  I found the film to be an emotional roller coaster ride.  Brigitte is such an excellent actress and the director Rene Clement did an excellent job of getting a great performance out of her.  You'll never forget Brigitte, a little girl who's cute as a button but who carries a lot of grief and tragedy with her.  I have to highly recommend this film.
