Friday the 13th Part 3D was the second sequel in the first run of the Friday the 13th franchise. During the early 80's 3D film making was under going a renaissance of sorts. Unlike the technique used today, the 3D format being used at the time was the old Red/Blue headache inducing style that quickly faded away after a couple of years. Other franchises raced out and produced their own 3D films as well (Jaws & Amityville Horror). This film is also the only Panavision release in the Friday the 13th series (pan & scan versions are unwatchable) so it gives this low budget film a very classy look.
Jason is back to dispatch more counselors and other who are dumb enough (or unlucky) to get into his way.The writing is real lazy (they listened to Cheech & Chong one too many times for the comic relief scene in the beginning along with adding a stoner couple). Tight 80's clothes (doesn't look good on the fellas), hammy acting, stomach groaning humor and pedestrian directing almost makes this film unwatchable. The only saving grace is the 3D format and the gore. You'll be cheering on Jason to make quick work of these unlikable characters. The new DVD release of the movie restores the original red/blue 3D format and it comes with two pairs of 3D glasses. How cool is that man?
If you like 3D movies (and who doesn't) or if you're just nostalgic for some 80's slasher films then you'll want to pick up a copy today. You can find it for under ten dollars and it's well worth it.
