So~would you sleep with me?

Pros: fairly short movie

Cons: ....the movie

a.k.a. if I could get you out of prison by sleeping with James Woods, would it be ok? Frankly, probably the best thing going for the movie would be the fact that Woods gets to sleep with Basinger. Otherwise - pppfffttt!

Sometimes remakes shouldn't go there. This is a confusing gig made up of too many people chasing Alec Baldwin. So many stories are crossbreeding here you can't figure out who the bad guy is and who he ain't. In fact, they are all pretty much starting to look the same so that you lose track of who is on Baldwin's team and who is against him. Throw in the fact that it is all framed around El Paso, you get that sepia tone look with a dash of color.

The idea is Baldwin is in prison in Mexico. Now he is a finesse robber, so James Woods needs him and needs him now. Woods and Basinger come to an ‘agreement' and Woods gets Baldwin out to lead his band of robbers at a Phoenix dog track. The robbery itself was interesting to watch with the new technology available today. That, and the fact there is no lower rating available, is the reason I gave it one star.

There s a fair amount of violence with a few shoot-em ups. I know films of old had the same violence but with todays methods we are show more....ummm....splattering than we used to. I don't mind a violent movie with shooting, Bonnie and Clyde is a perfect example, but I don't need to see body parts exploding, etc.. With a film like Bonnie and Clyde, they get shot, they bled, they die - done deal. Now we have brains, blood and gore splattering all over the screen, not necessary.

There were a fair number of funny scenes; one with Farnsworth where he snags a few extra thou for his old beat up truck, the babbling hotel keeper, Gilliam, and the meeting between Tilly, Stephens and Madsen when Madsen goes to them to get sewn up,. Stephens is a vet.

With the ‘72 release, you could feel the sexual sparks between McQueen and MacGraw, but then there WERE more sexual than Basinger and Baldwin. Watching Kim and Alec in a sex scene is like watching Kidman and Cruise without Kubrick to save them.....boring!

Although this release is packed with good actors, the direction was flat and the cameraman must have been in another country. Throw in some wholly unbelievable scenes like the garbage truck deal, the suitcase switch at the train station, plus coupling Tilly and Stephens as man and wife and finish up with the gratuitous car chase - you've seen it before, you'll see it again.

If you want to watch this movie, go with the ‘72 release with McQueen and MacGraw. With the exception of where the robbery took place (dog track instead of bank) everything is the same only you get good acting and directing,.

Curtain Call:
Alec Baldwin, Kim Basinger, Michael Madsen (very good), James Woods, David Morse, Jennifer Tilly (tramp), James Stephens (sucker), Burton Gilliam, Richard Farnsworth (hysterical) and pick of the day - Boots Southerland :)
