A 16-year-old who was raised by her father to be the perfect assassin is dispatched on a mission across Europe, tracked by a ruthless intelligence agent and her operatives.
It is hard for me to put a finger on it; “Hanna” is a film that is so unbelievably simple and yet something about it sits so well in my eyes. To say “Hanna” resembles a Grimm fairy tale may seem odd, but it certainly is something that commands attention, as though you have been spellbound. I kind think of director Joe Wright’s creation as an union of several fairy tales or a excursion if you will that carries the sensibilities of a Luc Besson film. “Hanna” … more
What to make of Hanna Heller (Saoirse Ronan)? She’s 16, pale blond, light blue eyes and has been raised since she was a few months old in the isolated, frigid forests of northern Finland. The things we begin to notice are the grimly serious hand-to-hand combat she and her father, Erik (Eric Bana) practice; the sneak attacks on each other and near-death blows; her knife skills and her bow and arrow expertise; her seriousness, her apparent lack of empathy, her high pain threshold; her relentless … more

If you choose to view it as a modern-day fairy tale, it will work even better. Essentially, it’s the story of a young girl who lived a protected life and is now ready to grow up in the … more
