This new spin on an old fable is from first-time director Cory Edwards, who also co-wrote the story and screenplay. Virtually everyone knows the story of Little Red Riding Hood, the young girl who brings a basketful of goodies to her Granny's house only to discover the Big Bad Wolf impersonating her beloved grandmother. In this digitally animated version of the classic tale, a bolder Red (Anne Hathaway) is a delivery girl for her Granny's sweets shop. In my opinion the fairy tale as source material for an animated feature spans two extremes: On the one end is Shrek (and it’s seemingly never ending sequels) and the other are the Happily N’ever After films. Shrek does things properly with an original, witty, and engaging tale in the forefront and classic fairy tale spoofs and references thrown about for good measure. This was one funny and clever kid's movies I have seen recently. My kids loved it instantly, and asked to watch it again. If there's one thing that annoys me, it's judging a book by its cover, or, in the case of a CGI film, by the CGI budget.
