The wildly popular Anim? series INUYASHA was created by imaginative author Rumiko Takahashi. INUYASHA is a half-demon warrior who has been awakened accidentally from his long slumber by the schoolgirl Kagome, who embarks on a series of adventures with … see full wiki
Just one more before I go work on my Buddhist Philosophy paper to argue that physical objects dont exist (no, Im not kidding). You know, I think this is one of the only series Ive seen that has so many two-part episodes hanging around.
F.Y.I. Inuyasha is brought to you by the talented and creative Rumiko Takahashi, who is also well-known for Ranma ½. If you are new to Inuyasha, dont start here. Its a bad idea. You wouldnt have a clue of what is going on. Scroll to the bottom of this review and choose Volume 1. If youre a parent and have no idea what you are looking for, I suggest you get help from your children, but if youre just perusing around, by all means, forge ahead. Inuyasha is a series with a total of 167 episodes with only 3 episodes per DVD. Such was that decision made by Viz to get the episodes out to the public faster.
Episode 85: As much as Inuyasha and the others dont want to get sidetracked, they cant avoid a place dubbed Demonhead with all that creepy evil energy flowing around it. The one problem now is to find out who the real demon is. Place your bets!
Episode 86: Well, a few people have figured things out, but now the problem is how to defeat a demon with such ugly power. It may not be as easy as they think perhaps that random old woman can be of some help.
Episode 87: This story isnt so much about Kikyo as it is more information on Onigumo, which is good for the rest of us who want to know.
Highlights and Issues:
Aw, cmon Sango! What Miroku was doing should be considered sweet! At least hes not groping your butt for once. If I had placed a bet, by the way, I would have won. Whoohoo!
I guess were doing some sort of character focus here because everyone seems to pick up on narrating an episode now (or at least the intro to the episode). Interesting way to switch things up a bit for a change of pace. Ah, at least now I know when the next setting will come up Ive been waiting for the mountain I saw when I caught an episode on TV.
Ah! Here at #86 the music has once again changed! Though the opening theme is the same, the ending theme has switched up to something new. So that makes this the *counts* 7th ending theme thus far. Whoo! Thats a lot of different ending themes! Id actually forgotten about this one, but its pretty good. Do you remember Do As Infinity? Its another one by those who brought you Deep Forest and you all remember (well, maybe) how I liked that one. Im starting to think maybe I should look into a CD or something. I approve of this song as well, I love the instrumentation, has a few things we dont often hear and the lead singers voice is really beautiful, I just think its really nice the way its put together. 5 stars, yay!
The Usual:
Animation the animation is awesome. Its not going to stop being awesome unless the animators suddenly get lazy and start drawing stick figures. But I doubt that because we still have over 100 episodes to go, so that must mean everyone still liked it beyond this point, otherwise Im sure it would have been cancelled over in Japan. Great use of character design, color, detail (Im always a fan of detail when it comes to anime the more the better we dont do enough of it here in the US, so sad), and always the facial expressions. Gotta love anime facial expressions.
Music The opening theme is still Owarinai Yume by Aikawa Nanase. It rocks out right away, so be sure your speakers arent too loud or you might scare yourself. Haha. I kinda jumped because I hadnt been expecting the change. Its fast with lots of drums and guitar and is quite foot-tapping. Both the opening and closing songs are sung by women and are nice (not too high this time, hehe). Instrumental background music is done by Kaoru Wada and is very good, a lot of the same themes like Shippous little fluty one, but they always work well wherever theyre placed. Piano and gentle string themes, such as Kagome and Inuyashas songs of when theyre together make for great soft stuff to fall asleep to.
Voices! Japanese is great of course. English; as pleasing as the Japanese. As you can see from the little compiled list below, Im not always biased toward the Japanese version. It just depends upon the script and who they hire for voices. Sometimes they do a good job and I prefer the English version. Then there are times like this, when I just cant decide
Inuyasha love both VAs, and am unable to pick a favorite. Perfect characterization.
Kagome enjoy both, but prefer Satsuki Yukino for Japanese version.
Sesshoumaru I *love* David Kaye for the English version, but just barely over the Japanese VA
Shippou both are totally cute, and I cannot choose a favorite
Jaken they both crack me up, prefer Japanese just a *bit* over the English one
Kikyo definitely prefer the Japanese version, just seems to fit better
Miroku both VAs are very good, very similar, and I cant pick a favorite
Naraku the evil guy, done very well by all VAs (2 Japanese, 1 English), no favorites, though they have different qualities, theyre all good.
Sango both are very good, though I do have a slight preference for the Japanese version
Kirara no actual voice here, but I like the sound effects chosen to represent her, such as the snarling jaguar noise in her fired up form, and then the little squeak of a mew in her adorable little form.
Kouga English favorite hands down, but Japanese is still cool. I just love Scott McNeil.
Everyone else, such as Souta, Kagomes mother, grandfather, Myouga, Kaede, Kohaku, and demons involved are well done. Kaede would be better if she werent speaking in medieval English all the time (Ye?), but thats blame on the scriptwriters.
Note to Parents: There is some language, some implied nudity, a lot of violence, blood, and dead people are involved. Some of the demons themselves are pretty creepy looking and do some bizarre things. Hey, demons are demons. Comparing it to other anime series Ive seen though, its not as realistic by far, but hey, youre the parent; you decide.
