Underrated Xmas Flick

 Language below, FYI.

I saw a Tweet on Ahhnold's feed the other day that was a response to someone stating that he was going to use "Jingle" as threat to get the state to come up with a budget. Well first of all it's quite obvious the man has checked out. For those of you who read this later on, it's July in the election year of his final term and the man is totally acting like the average folks do after they've given their 2-weeks. But I digress. He clearly does not have a grasp on which of his movies are decent and which are complete shit. Jingle All the Way, while no Terminator or Total Recall is actually a good Christmas movie for the kids. It's as enjoyable as the stupid Santa Clause movies with Tim The Tool Man and is is certainly not as bad as Junior.

The movie is about a dad (Schwarzenegger), who is always busy at work; and in this he's not a spy or anything, he's actually just a busy dude trying to provide for his family and apparently trying to keep up appearances with his neighbor, Phil Hatman. Well his son (the kid from Phantom Menace) is a huge fan of a character called Turbo Man. Kind of a mix between Superman, Flash Gordon and a Power Ranger. Being Christmas the toy is all the rage. Arnold literally fight old ladies in the mall to try and get one only to come up empty handed. During all of this he makes enemies with another father in Sinbad who is a disgruntled post man. I think someone just passed him up on the street and asked if he wanted to be in a cheesy family flick because I could totally see Sinbad as a disgruntled postman since he'd probably make more money doing that than playing at random Indian Casinos and the Mont Bleu in Tahoe throughout the year. Anyway, somehow they end up dressed up as Turbo Man and his arch enemy (guess who was Turbo Man) fighting on a Christmas parade float while Turbo Man is supposed to give one child from the crowd a toy of his likeness. Arnold's wife and kid are obviously in the crowd and Phil Hartman and his kid are with them and Hartman has been hitting on her the whole time. An Intelligent person can guess what happens ten minutes into the picture.

This thing is incredibly cheesy and has pretty lame special effects during the Turbo Man / Sinbad fight. But really... it's not bad to watch, especially if you got little kids who like Christmas and superheroes. It's well-paced, not too horribly written and if you can find it on a bargain rack at Wal-Mart or Target worth the purchase. I live in Sacramento and am totally into the local history and in turn take my son to the capital, which he loves and we have seen Arnold do little appearances and speak at the Vietnam Vet's memorial with Jon Voigt and the little guy loves him. He even calls him Turbo Man. Like I said before, if you want to see a truly shitty Schwarzenegger movie, rent Junior. But if you want to see something at least watchable that's not R-Rated this is definitely worth it.

For me this was one of those flicks that I tend to see when I am...in a mood that I need a laugh. I like seeing a muscled actor make a fool out of himself, makes it more funny. Thanks for the review!
