I really enjoyed this movie! Robert Downey, Jr. is one of my favorite actors, and he certainly shows why in this film. He is intelligent and sarcastic, but also has a big heart. The first time I watched this film, I thought it was great, but a lot of the plot didn't make sense since it was kind of all over the place. The second time, I found myself repeatedly saying, "Oh, okay!" The day after the second watching, I kept thinking back on several of the scenes and laughing to myself again. Some of …

This is genre-bending noirish dark comedy at its self-referential best. I had a lot of fun watching this film, and laughed out loud more than I have in a long time. Val Kilmer and Robert Downey, Jr. are at the top of their game; the script is clever; and writer Shane Black pulls it off in his directorial debut. Shane Black is a hard driving propulsive director who seems to value speed highly. In some films it works: In KISS KISS BANG BANG the result is just a silly, self-absorbed 'in joke' that quickly wears out its welcome.    Harry Lockhart (Robert Downey, looking a bit long in the tooth) escapes his career in minor petty crime in New York and flees to Los Angeles where he serendipitously lands in an acting studio tryout and is picked up as a method actor for a part in a crime movie. …
