Pros: direction, music, camera work, Brando, Schneider     Cons: none for me     The Bottom Line:   "To a theme we tore from their past  To a tango we swore was their last  We are shadows of dance"  ~Uwe Kroger     This is about as French as I can get, to honor my bud Barb, ifif1938.    Written and directed by Bernardo Bertolucci, I can certainly remember when Last Tango in Paris …

The reputation of Bernardo Bertolucci's LAST TANGO IN PARIS precedes it. Film critic Pauline Kael famously proclaimed it to be "the most powerfully erotic movie ever made", while the NC-17 rating and a few sour reviews led some to believe that the film was nothing more than high-class pornography. I had great expectations about this film but it ultimately left me cold. The two lovers know nothing of each other, not even their names...
