Limelight was Chaplin's curtain call whilst A King in New York was his encore. Such a melodramatic comedy that'll pull at your heart strings. Chaplin stars as a broken down drunken clown who lives his life in poverty and obscurity. One day he saves a young ballerina (Claire Boom) who tries to commit suicide. Feeling pity for the young woman, Chaplin takes her in and nurses her back to help. The two get to know each other better and he encourages her to get back into dancing. She becomes a huge star but that's just the beginning. The clown still craves the spotlight but his health begins starts to decline. One day he receives a call from his agent...
Such a heartwarming film. Even though it's a bit on the weepy side, it's a great movie. Claire Bloom never looked prettier and Chaplin acts his butt off. Buster Keaton has a great guest starring role as Chaplin's former sidekick.

Cool review. Received a copy of this for my birthday but have not had a chance to view it yet. Perhaps I will give it a write-up soon. Thumbs up man!

A great film. Claire Bloom is great in her role. She's one of my favorite actresses. The film's a bit melancholy but very influential film that was remade a few times over the years.

Claire Bloom has a great voice & has made some pretty amazing films. She even did the narration of Cathy in the film Flowers In The Attic. I don't see how this film could possibly be anything but amazing with Chaplin, Keaton, & Bloom. ;-)
