Two different versions of the film were made.  To recoup the financial losses that Lisa and the Devil made, the producer Alfredo Leone recut, filmed and directed new scenes to make the new version an Exorcist knock off.

Director: Mario Bava

A beautifully shot and highly underrated classic horror film from Mario Bava.

Lisa Reiner (Elke Sommer) is a tourist who gets lost in an old Italian village.  Along the way she meets a strange individual named Leandro (Telly Savalas) who seems to recognize her.  His appearance gives her the willies.  As day turns to night, Lisa is lost and takes refuge inside an old mansion that is filled with some strange and peculiar Italian aristocrats.  During the night, she learns about them and why they're acting so queer.  Is she the long lost guest that they have been waiting for?  Who is this mysterious Leandro?  What kind of dinner plans do the hosts have for Lisa and why does she seem to know Lisa?

A glossy and beautifully filmed horror flick from Mario Bava.  Elke Sommer is incredibly attractive as Lisa, the lost tourist who is suffering from a case of deja vu.  Telly Savalas is creepy as Leandro, the man who has as many secrets as Lisa.  I really enjoyed the complexity of the plot, the tight direction and the cinematography of the film.  A classy horror film for those who like to get their brain involved when watching a movie.  The movie didn't make a lot of money and the producer reedited the movie, shot new sequences and added Robert Alda in to make the film into a profitable Exorcist knock off. If you want to see Mario Bava's best film then look no further than Lisa and the Devil.

Highly recommended.
