Hill Harper is probably one of my favorite actors as well as one hell of an underrated one but he must be doing some amazing things with that Harvard MPA. This is one of those films where you watch it cause of who's in it and the synopsis comes off a bit funny so you take a chance and end up loving it. The movie sets out to sort of give you some laughs and by the middle gets you interested in exactly what may happen and where its going.
Hill plays Michaal Joseph, a porn addict who is a starving artist working as a lonely security guard. He tries to talk to the ladies but every time they see his security badge they turn away quick. He runs into a super beautiful Jasmine LeJeune played by Marlyne Afflack at a laundry mat by chance. Somehow by some funny coincidences they start talking and hit it off. The first problem occurs when Jasmine tells Michael that she is celibate due to recently getting out of a horrible relationship. After finally getting past this the 2nd problem occurs when, well I guess you'll have to see but its definitely entertaining and messed up.
Love, Sex and Eating the Bones has great direction and a pretty funny cast. Marlyne Afflack is incredibly gorgeous and plays jasmine great, she's lonely too but also a beautiful woman who is intelligent and wont just put out for any dude walking around. You gotta love that and she definitely works the role just right only making it more believable. The film is definitely original but also holds your attention as it goes on, I would think this type of scenario would be hard to stray from making sleazy and distasteful but I feel that it was done very well. Harper feels like a regular guy thats just caught up in some of life's speed bumps and the friends around them are almost as good.
Speaking of that, I think the friends could have been written better. Hill has a friend named sweets played by Mark Taylor who is supposed to be his Jamaican playboy friend but I don't know why but he is a bit hard to take seriously in some scenes. His other friend Kennedy played by Ed Robertson was a little fun but even worse than sweets. Love, Sex, and Eating the Bones is definitely a good pick up for a couple on a movie night and also if you're just chillin at home on a late night and want to watch something funny but its definitely worth a watch.
