Great Sports Themed Episodes to Learn About Science

  • Feb 25, 2008
Rating:
+1
Pros: Fun sports themes for kids to learn about different science topics

Cons: No special features (at least if you use a Mac like me)

The Bottom Line: Great Magic School Bus episodes that make learning about science fun, but would be nice if there were some special features.

Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot.

This DVD has three sports related episodes of Magic School Bus. In these episodes the Magic School Bus teaches about different science topics that end up in some way related to sports or exercise. This animated cartoon appeals most to kids around ages 8 to 12 and this particular collection of episodes appeals to sports and/or science lovers in that age range.

The first episode is called "Play Ball." In this episode the class learns about friction by taking a Magic School Bus field trip into a book. They end up in a diagram of a baseball field without friction. They learn the importance of friction in allowing us to do things, such as stop when running around the bases.

The second episode is called "Works Out." In this episode Ms. Frizzle is competing against another teacher in an athletic competition. The kids end up on a Magic School Bus adventure inside their teacher to learn that exercising uses more than just muscle strength. Inside their teacher they learn how muscles need oxygen to make their muscles work and how the heart is also an important muscles.

This third episode is called "Shows and Tells." In this episode Arnold brings a mysterious artifact to compete in a show and tell competition. The class uses the Magic School Bus to play out their hypothesizes about what the item was actually used as. As they learn about how archaeologists use artifacts to figure out how people in the past lived. In the end the item ends up being for an ancient game, thus its connection to this DVD's sports theme.

The episodes on this DVD are great educational shows that are interesting for kids, however it is disappointing that there are no special features on this DVD. There are supposedly some special features on this if you use Windows, but since I use Mac computers I have no idea what the special features are.
