"My Girlfriend's Boyfriend" looks like a home movie. The characters are too large and not convincing and the plot could have been better developed. Even so, this is not a bad movie. It is somewhat funny and cute in somewhat of a zany, screwball sense. A gay soap actor is about to marry a very innocent and unsuspecting young woman so that he can help his "hetero-hunk" image. His boyfriend is none too pleased about this, especially since he is to be the best man at the wedding. The bride's best friend and maid of honor come in with her date who is mistaken as the lover of the actor's boyfriend (following this?). The bride's mother and a reporter have some photographs of the actor and this guy and you begin to wonder if you have any idea of what is going on. What could be a comedy of errors becomes a comedy of confusion. This is the kind of movie that is so confusing that you find yourself laughing at it instead of laughing with it. Valerie Perrine as mother-of-the-bride is as confused about the script as we are and Deborah Gibson as the reporter is weak (to put it mildly). Chris Bruno as the actor is nice to look at even though he has no idea of how to act but he isn't on screen long enough to make me suggest this movie. Like I said, it is not all bad if you can figure out what is going on.
