Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant forge memorable chemistry in this charmer about two very different people--William, an unassuming bookstore owner in London's Notting Hill section, and Anna, a Hollywood actress--who, against the odds, fall in love. After Anna wanders into William's shop while filming on location in London, the two share an instant attraction and find themselves attempting to forge a normal relationship despite Anna's megawatt star power. Screenwriter Richard Curtis (FOUR WEDDINGS AND A FUNERAL) has crafted a traditional romantic comedy that is surprisingly frank in its depiction of the lives of the rich and famous and the price they pay for success.

A Quick Tip by Sharrie

It was on TV yesterday. Not bad for a boring Sunday afternoon! Too hot outside to go anywhere but staying home for relaxation. Julia Roberts looks pretty here. Boy, it's more than a decade since! As for Hugh Grant, well, he's almost the same in all the movies he acted in! Still, one wonders how he got all these roles! Good thing I didn't pay for these movies! ;-)

I first saw this movie on accident. It was the day my divorce was finalized. I had a date with my sister to see the new Austin Powers. She stood me up. Austin Powers was sold out. It was a Friday night and I was alone. I was NOT going to leave that theater. So, I saw this. I rolled my eyes through the whole thing...I was in such a mood. I saw it again when it hit the video stores. I fell in love with it. It's still one of my favorite movies.

A Wry British Comedy with Staying Power

NOTTING HILL was a breath of fresh air when it entered the theaters in 1999. Written by Richard Curtis (Four Weddings and a Funeral, Love Actually, The Girl in the Cafe - as well as the Bridget Jones scripts) and directed by Roger Michell (Persuasion, Changing Lanes, Enduring Love) the story is a bit cockamamie but blossoms in the hands of the fine cast. Surreal but Sweet

Pros: Sweet, funny, quite entertaining Cons: Predictable This movie is so predictable. I could have written it myself. I still enjoyed it very much. Both Julia Roberts and Hugh Grant give good performances. I was really tickled by her "acting" within the movie--it was pretty bad.
