Those Who Are Without Shortcomings Cast the First Stone

Pros: action is absorbing through most of the movie, special effects are suprisingly good for such a low budget, Michael York is fun as the bad guy, acting is decent,

Cons: ending is sort of muddled, but not awful, there are parts of the storyline that do not flow as smoothly as they could have

You know, I was about to shut my computer off and not do any more opinions here today when I happened to hit this page where I saw the OMEGA CODE.

I figured I would just read a couple of opinions and be done with it, but what I read lit me up and made me want to blaze a reply.

Instead, what I would like to do is bring a little reality to some of you snide critics out there and give a little less prejudiced judgement on a movie that you have come down way too hard on.

First of all, I would like you to know that I had just come out of a very frustrating experience with a friend of mine. She had called me from across the country to tell me excitedly of her appearance in a film that was soon to be nationally distributed. I had seen others in this series of "Christian" films and they were actually quite good, considering what they had to work with. There are many high budget films that I would rather gnaw my leg off than to sit through the whole thing. I am not a very simple person to please. Nor am I mindless.

I was rather excited to see this film. I got reports from my friend on the hours of endless filming and her kids and husband were extras too. The advertising campaign was the biggest yet, as the series had quite a following.

So, when our son sprang for the video cost, we all sat with anticipation in front of the screen waiting to see a high impact video like the rest of the series had been.

Talk about let down. I can not describe to you enough the pain it was to watch this thing from beginning to end. It was by far one of the worst "grade school" level plays on film I had ever seen, and I saw the "Christian" films of the 70's.

The icing on the cake was when in a supposedly intense scene of a horrible court trial that was not going well, I looked over the actor's shoulder to see my friend holding up her child high and grinning into the camera!

That was the experience I had with a Christian film before we went to see the Omega Code in the theater. We had buy one get one free tickets, so we went.

I was expecting the worst. Believe me, you have nothing to worry about in this film, compared to what I have had to sit through.

Anyway, you critics are being far too hard. You are expecting these people to superscede the "great filmmakers". These people who made the Omega Code were trying to make a good film with a limited budget that many people would not even consider doing anything with, let alone on a national scale. I have to hand it to them to have the guts to attempt something like this on a national scale.

I used to be a very critical person. TBN was on my long list of TM- total mock victims. I, like many, would judge people by standards that I myself would not live by. I learned the hard way that what goes around comes around. When the shoe is on the other foot, you begin to see people differently.

The OMEGA CODE is a fine attempt to make a cinema action film by someone with an unbelievably limited budget. Frankly, I was surprised that they did such a good job. I have seen pictures with 3 times the budget that had special effects and lines far worse than this picture.

After all, they did gain national attention, which is more than many films do from small companies.

The acting is not top notch, but neither is it terrible. We actually did not hate the movie at all. It was not the BEST movie we have seen, but it was nothing like the worst.

I thought that the action was engrossing until the end. There were not any places where I felt like pole vaulting out the back door, or stabbing myself just to escape the torment of the movie. That is more than I can say for many high budget films I have seen.

The storyline was incomplete, but then again, not everyone that sees it will know the Bible.

If you see this film (and I am not ruining the content by discussing the details), go at it with total fantasy and do not demand that it meet any expectations. It is just a film that the makers seemed to explore some interesting situations involving the end times.

The end of the movie did suddenly come and was not too clear, but it was not a let down nor did it leave you with hopelessness like so many movies do.

I know that many Christian people hype things up way beyond reality, but then again, so does the news media. And I would bet that each of you do too. We all have our things that we like to embellish.

I would definitely see the movie now that it is on video- rent it. Just do not hold it up to be something more than it was meant to be - just fun.
