There is a very special place in my heart for this fine 1984 motion picture starring Sally Field. Set in rural Texas in 1935, Edna Spaulding must cope with the tragic and unexpected loss of her husband while at the same time trying to raise her pre-teen son and young daughter all by herself and also manage the family farm. She is totally lost without her husband and this is never more apparent than when she has to give her son a spanking after he gets caught smoking at school. One is definitely impressed by how overwhelming it all can be! Danny Glover is terrific as a hobo named Moze who shows up one night looking for work and becomes a very integral part of the story. I loved everything about this movie. The writing is first rate and the charactors are real and compelling. "Places In The Heart" was filmed entirely around the small town of Waxahatchie, TX. This proves to be the perfect setting for the story that is being told. As our country slips into challenging economic times this would be a great choice for family viewing. There is an awful lot to chew on here. One of the best films of the 1980's! Very highly recommended!
