So, no one ever told me the original Planet of the Apes movie was about religion! Now I can finally see what everyone had against the Tim Burton remake which came out a few years ago. (I was not a fan of the remake myself.)    Movies revolving around people who are captured, enslaved, and turned into freaks by their supreme oppressors usually have a very specific theme and formula. Definitely a classic film. It may move slow for some who are really into the high-tech action; this one has more of a plot and dialogue with it than just action.

It is quite a small irony that Charlton Heston (Moses) is the star of this movie. He builds the franchise well as Taylor the self-absorbed commander reduced to animal in a cage. He plays the role well but has plenty of help. Kim Hunter and Roddy McDowall (one of the most underrated actors who have been)and Maurce Evans do their best to steal the show.
