He may be the first guy through the door but he is an ass!

Pros: Armand Assante
Cons: THE ENTIRE MOVIE
A slap in the face, ignorant, racist, poorly written and poorly acted movie. Interested? Take two hours and 15 minutes of your life and join the slime and pigs (sorry for that pun) in the gutters of New York and the police department. Immerse yourself in the corruption, graft, murder, drugs and dirty cops. Still interested?
Add Nick Nolte in one of his poorest performances as the worlds worst cop that hates all ethnic groups and all people of any type of sexual orientation (keeping this within the boundaries of epinions so a little lame on that description). He doesn't like prostitutes, drug dealers or any type of structured government.
Throw in Timothy Hutton, who I personally think is one of the rudest humans in America after seeing him interviewed on television, as the district attorney with no previous background and no ability to investigate a case. As his sidekick, we find Patrick O'Neal, chief of homicide and just as corrupt as Nolte, therefore we know Nolte will skate through his Q&A.
The one and only redeeming quality in the entire movie is Armand Assante who I often find is the redeeming quality in most movies. He plays a drug dealer dating Huttons' former girlfriend.
The film is intended as a look into the corruption and racism of police departments however it falls so short of that goal you truly wonder what the original concept was supposed to be. Many times you feel insulted and down right aggravated with the language and ideas used in this movie. In fact, several times during the movie I wanted to just turn it off and walk away. But true to my new Epinions outlook, I now feel I must finish every movie I watch just to give it a fair break. This movie however deserved no breaks and I am giving it none.
I didn't care for the violence or the language, full of racial slurs and snappy racial nicknames that I will not use here. I didn't like the overt beating and murders of homosexuals or the way they depicted them in the movie. The storyline fully stink, stank, and stunk', the music was deplorable and poorly placed in the movie, the editing mediocre and it was full of people you just loved to hate.
Stars: Nick Nolte, Timothy Hutton, Armand Assante, Patrick O'Neal, Charles Dutton and two guys who I don't know who they are or what they played but I loved their names in the credits: International Chrysie and Fyvush Finkel
