An old gunfighter and outlaw Judd (Joel Mc Crea) knows that his days of living the wild west lifestyle is coming to an end. He wants to do one last job before he retires. His job is to protect a money shipment that's coming from a gold mining town. Even though his boss doesn't believe a man of his advanced age could handle a job like this. Determined to prove him wrong, he takes the job for a lesser fee just to make a point. Looking for help, he runs across his old running buddy Gil (Randolph Scott) and his young "apprentice" (Ron Starr). They agree to help guard the shipment. But a little trouble gets into the way, they agree to escourt a young bride-to-be (Mariette Hartley) along with the shipment. Not only do they have to brave the elements and the creepy miners but a struggle from within. Can Judd keep his word and safely deliver the goods? Will Gil be a true friend and aid his only life long buddy? What else lies in wait for them in the hills? To find out you have to watch RIDE THE HIGH COUNTRY!!

Sam Peckinpah's second feature length film is a classic western and it made him one of the most sought after new talents of the western genre . He sure knows how to make them gritty, dirty and realistic.  This story dealt with the meaning of true friendship, self redemption and committing one selfless act. Unlike the film makers of the genre today, he makes these characters feel real instead of mere cartoons or cardboard cut outs. Peckinpah shot this movie in glorious CinemaScope with rich bright colors
