Shooter (2007)

A movie directed by Antoine Fuqua

A movie that would not have been out of place in the run of paranoid-political thrillers of the 1970s,Shooterworks an entertaining variation on the assassination picture. Mark Wahlberg, carrying over good mojo fromThe Departed, slides neatly into the … see full wiki

Reminiscent of The Parallax View, Wahlberg is framed by covert government operatives (led by Danny Glover) for a political assassination. Wahlberg (looking more Matt Damon like) is a government agent whose special talent is as a shooter with a rifle that allows him to reach a target a mile away. Wahlberg explains that there are many things that affect the shot from that distance such as wind, etc. Glover approaches him saying that an assassination threat has been detected against the …

Shooter
From director Antoine Fuqua who's created such hits as 'Training Day', 'King Arthur', and 'The Replacement Killers', comes 'Shooter', a high action "guy" flick.     Extreme sharp shooter Bob Swagger (Mark Wahlberg) is recruited after retirement to aid in foiling the president's assassination. Pros: Special effects were okay; I learned something about sniping     Cons: Largely Implausible and predictable.     The Bottom Line: Need I say skip it?      Plot Details: This opinion reveals minor details about the movie''s plot. This body that answers to no one manipulates …

I had mild expectations before watching "Shooter." I didn't read the book on which it's based and had no idea of the premise. Wahlberg was great in "The Departed" so I was at least looking forward to seeing another one of his performances which turned out to be also great. Mark Walberg plays the betrayed soldier Swagger aka Shooter who lives a Ruby Ridge like isolated existence against the stunningly beautiful backdrop of forested mountain country. Sometimes this makes wonder is that the only way …

SHOOTER is a fast paced, well-photographed, imaginative thriller - the kind of movie that does not allow the attention span to wander for a second if the full impact of the drama is to be appreciated. Based on the popular novel 'Point of Impact' by Stephen Hunter and adapted for the screen by Jonathan Lemkin, this is a story we don't want to know: the Intelligence and Security of the US are shown to influenced by financial gains, greed, and lawlessness - all undercover in the most frightening ways. …
