Silver Bullet was another bad adaptation of a Stephen King novel. The book was originally based upon an idea for a calender. But the original concept was expanded to novel size. Like any book that was printed during the eighties, it was seized by Dino De Laurentis (a major Stephen King movie backer) and optioned for a film release. The film would star Corey Haim (one of the two infamous Coreys) Megan Follows and the "new" look of Gary Busey (re-inventing himself as a Nick Nolte wannabe).

Something evil and mysterious and moved into Tarker's Mill.  There has been a brutal slaying each night of the full moon that has the local authorities baffled and the citizens in terror.  The strange murders have canceled the Fourth of July celebrations disappointing a young kid named Marty,  But his wild uncle is in town and bring Marty his own fireworks to have a "blast".  That night Marty encounters what maybe behind all of the trouble in town.  But who would believe him?  Who or what is stalking the good people of Tarker's Mill?  Why did Gary Busey change his image?  What the hell is The Silver Bullet?  You'll have to find out for yourself when you watch Silver Bullet.

The film makers didn't know if they wanted to be serious or a cheesy parody. The results are a paint-by-the-numbers werewolf movie. I was expecting more when I first saw it and I was disappointed. It would have been a great spoof but I guess that wasn't in the cards.

Hmm, being a movie that I liked (and scared me, moreso) as a kid...I wasn't too sure what to expect from your review. But, good approach though. I guess, though...and this goes for anything that has a book out in circulation before the screenplay.. There's a reason they're called "adaptations". To mimic 100% from page to stage/screen could get a lil too predictable as well as longwinded. My G-d, if I read another well Harry Potter-this and Twilight-that, I'm gonna scream.

From my most recent viewing(s) of Silver Bullet (earlier this month), I can DEF say that the werewolf is NOT scary. Looks more like a creature suited to fit in the forthcoming "Where the Wild Things Are". Furthermore, the traditional stance of has the leg/knee bent the opposite direction. It's hard to imagine that this [clearly a suited] werewolf, from horror icon Stephen King, is nothing "suited" to fit what a werewolf is. However, Lak Sivrak's character in Star War's cantina scene had it under wraps...and MUCH earlier than SB's release.

My last thought on SB, is based on mere cover art. Whence bought I this DVD, the cover has a quasi-animated look to it in flame-on orange and blue hues, with an inset of Everett McGill's werewolf and the church in the midst. The cover tagged here, I'd prefer to have.. Is/was there a certain release [special] edition?

Thanks for a good review!
