Stargate: The Ark of Truth Blu-Ray Review

Now when I first bought The Ark of Truth on DVD, I ha heard they used a nicer camera to film the movie with then they do to shoot SG-1 or Atlantis with, but when I put the DVD on it was still just as gritty as the television show. Now the minute I put the Blu-ray on the other night, I cold tell an immediate difference. In the opening sequence, the mountains were crystal clear and the colors bursting through. The sound was a lot crisper as well (I also have a surround sound system though so I think it's going to sound good no matter what, but I'll talk about the sound later)and there was no nitty grittiness to it. I think my favorite scene to watching the Ori scout ships flying to the City of the Gods on Celestas. It was sunning to watch that. There was just an amazing amount of detail and color put into that shot, despite the fact that it was CG. What I think happened was that they shot the film on an HD camera and then put that on a DVD so it didn't turn out right. The minute you put that file on a Blu-ray though, it looks stunning.

As far as the sound went I was really pleased for the most part. I still am trying to figure out the best setup for my surround sound system so I think I don't think I gt the full effect, but still, it sounded magnificent. I think no matter if you have a system or not, Hi-def lossless sound in Dolby Digital sounds stunning. During the fight scenes I mean you almost feel like you are there. Karyn pointed out to me during the scene when the gunners were shooting down the replicators that you could here the shells falling and the reverb from all the shooting. It was pretty cool. My only concern with some of the Blu-rays I have been watching is that you aren't getting the full surround sound effect. There were points that it definitely was there, but also points were it should have been were it wasn't. For example, it sounded great when, again, the troops were shooting down the replicators, but when the Ori ships were firing on the Odyssey It didn't sound like it was coming from all of these different directions which I was hoping for. I have to say the best Blu-ray experience I have had so far, sound and all, was Transformers. I mean, I thought I was in the movies. So The Ark of Truth Blu-ray gets a 4.5/5 for me cause of MINOR sound issues.
