I had been watching a movie and it went right into a Tae Bo infomercial which I became fascinated with. Billy Blanks makes you really believe that you CAN do it and that even if you never exercised before, you can get into shape easily and quickly if you follow his instructions. I called and ordered the tape and waited eagerly to "get onto shape."
I must admit that Billy seems totally sincere and is very motivational. I enjoy and need that. The instruction video was good, it showed step by step how to do the moves and I picked then up quickly, I was doing just fine doing the practice moves. I jabbed, I undercut, I kicked.
Then we started REALLY working out. I am not a graceful person. I trip over the dog, then trip over the cat on my way to the mailbox.
Although I am not overweight, I certainly am not "fit" and I wanted to get my heart and my body back into shape. This tape will do it. But you have to concentrate really hard or else you'll fall on your face!
The combination of jabs and kicks when you are going at full speed could lead to all sorts of household disasters such as kicking coffee tables and punching walls.
Make sure you have plenty of room to move and are prepared to concentrate. If you have any joint problems, particularly knee problems, check with your doctor before doing this. I have a knee problem and although Billy tells you how to kick so as not to hurt yourself, I still found myself hyperextending my knee and causing some pain the next day.
All in all, if you have the desire, this tape certainly gives you the energy and the coordination. I stuck with it and I haven't fallen or even kicked anything in a long time. My heart rate is better, I feel more graceful (slightly!) and I do enjoy the energy that comes with the workout.
It isn't a tape you can do easily the first time around. Richards Simmons, it isn't. But it is serious and it is fun and you will see results if you stick with it.
