And on the 7th day, God said "Hasta La Vista Baby!"

I should hate The 6th Day for one of the reasons I disliked Raw Deal in that it took Arnold Schwarzenggar and tried to make us think he's just a regular guy and who's even undercover while doing it.  In effect make the guy two things that don't work with him.  Arnie is a big guy who isn't what I think of when I hear the word subtle and here, he is again playing a regular guy at least the movie much like other Arnold films has the sense to keep things lively.

It's the not too distant future and Arnold is a retired Army helicopter pilot who, along with his firend have a charter business.  Getting a medical scan before he heads off on his next job he comes home to see there is another Arnold in his house and he is a wanted man.  We later have both Arnolds meet, find out who is or isn't a clone of the other.

There is more to this movie then that and it does open the door to a lot of religous and scientific talk.  Is it right to clone people?  Is it right to clone them against they're will?  Should we lose our best and brightest cause they get sick or old, or would they WANT do die at some point?  Is it okay to allow people who have been cloned repeatedly to discontinue being cloned when they annoy you?  What about pets, that thing in a childs life that provides friendship and companionship for years until that one day when the pet dies and children learn a lesson about life and death, do you clone them to save your child mental grief and sadness, or is it life goes on and you hope they move on?  This is some heady talk for an Arnie movie and it does sadly make the one thing about this movie amiss, and that is Arnie as the lead.  It's hard to have phillosophical talk and debate in a movie that doesn't have a big problem continually moving into loud laser gun duels with it's big action hero star.  Arnold's presence doesn't hinder the movie as bad as you think and the movie stays sharp.

While The 6th Day has it's biggest failing in having Arnold as it's star, you can look at it this way.  Another actor, lets say Nicholas Cage- could handle being the regular guy that Arnold is supposed to be in this movie and would look better in the debate of cloning, morals the thing that this movie is going for.  However Arnold to me anyway looks far more beliveable in the action scenes that this movie does have many of and are actually pretty good and could suffer without him in them.  It's a double edged sword.

The 6th Day has nice action and food for thought and I will again reiterate that Arnold's casting is it's hinderance but unlike Raw Deal-The 6th Day is a smarter movie and entertaining while Raw Deal is a dumb movie and was dull.  The ends do justify the means just as how the villain will argue in the movie that a Utopia is worth having if you need to break the rules.

Right on. Arnold rules. Never has a lack of acting talent been more execusable from a guy so entertaining.
