Produced by Biller Wilder and starring Jack Lemmon and Shirley MacLaine, this movie tells the story of Mr. C.C. Baxter an insurance office worker who gets glowing recommendations from his managers by letting them use his apartment for their extramarital affairs while he ends up sleeping on a park bench. Baxter falls for Fran Kubelik, the elevator operator at the insurance company played by MacLaine, but she is in love with the married personnel director Mr. Sheldrake (Fred MacMurray in a rare bad guy role). Baxter and Kubelik eventually get together, and there’s a real New Year’s Eve surprise near the end of the movie that will take your breath away.
