The Four Marx Brothers first feature film.

The Cocoanuts was the first feature film starring the Four Marx Brothers.  Groucho Marx stars as Mr. Hammer, who runs a hotel where all the hi jinks occurs.  Zeppo Marx co-stars as Jamison, his assistant along with Chico Marx and his partner-in-crime Silent Red (Harpo Marx).  The story revolves around two couples, one that's in love and the other that's plotting to steal a valuable necklace from the comic foil dowager (played by Margaret Dumont.  The hilarious comic routines and bizarre conversations between the brothers are padded out with musical numbers.  Several classic comic bits are featured in the film such as the viaduct/why-a-duck exchange and the auctioneer skit. Not a classic but a funny debut for the Four Marx Brothers.

Groucho Marx is the star, Zeppo plays the straight man and Chico and Harpo perform the physical routines,  Margret Dumont's role as the stuffy dowager is real funny, She and Groucho have a natural chemistry together,  The film's sound equipment is very primitive and sensitive.  All of the papers used in the film as props (maps, newspapers, etc.) have been soaked in water to prevent excessive crackling.  I found the movie to be funny and I love the teaming of the four brothers (I didn't like the films after Zeppo left).  Not a classic like Duck Soup or Horse Feathers, but a funny look into things to come.
