El Superbeasto.....uh.....huh

I just recently purchased cable with On Demand so I've been spending almost all of my time watching excellent movies.  So after watching The Children, The Jacket and Memento in order I wanted something a little different, so I stumbled upon The Haunted World of El Superbeasto.  Now, I'm not a big fan of Rob Zombie's movies (I enjoy his music but that's another story)  but I enjoy obscure and cult films, both of which i had heard characterizes this movie.  After about 5 minutes in though I kept asking myself,  "Ian, what combination of drugs would make this movie acceptable?"

The story follows the comic made by Rob Zombie so it's obviously edgy...let's get a check list going to see what this movie has that well, all Rob Zombie movies follow:

Is It...
Edgy? Check!
Bloody? Check!
Obscure?  Check!
Full of cursing every five minutes? Check!
Sex/Nudity? Check! Which I must say was a bit weird due to the fact that it's a cartoon; in fact all of the female cast were naked throughout like 70% of the movie
Cheesy Dialogue?  Check!
And of course, just plain weird?  Check!

The story is so busy that about five things are going on at once, jumping around just a bit less than pulp fiction, that and the fact that it relies on the sexuality and overall brutality it seemed like the writers themselves forgot about the story.

What it is about though, is simply the journey of El Superbeasto (hasben porn star/media whore) and his adopted sister Suzi X, with her partner/sex toy Murray as they save Velvet Von Black (fowl mouthed stripper with breasts that have a mind of their own) from the evil? Dr. Satan.

yes, it is as weird as it sounds if not weirder.  The thing is, I did not enjoy this film due to the fact that all it was, was gore, stupid jokes laced with obsinities and scat jokes, along with a long series of obscure nudity for little to no reason other than for the sake of sexuality.  However, being a cult cartoon film I understand the buzz behind it.

Anyone who can recall Fritz the Cat, an adult themed TV show of the 90's I believe, know that the show itself is not that good.  The buzz behind it was because it was so controversial with it themes and actions, seeing a smoking cartoon cat always talking about getting laid was a new thing back then; and this is exactly what El Superbeasto attempted to be, a new Fritz the Cat.

It may be a severely hit or miss title, but I would honestly suggest seeing it for the experience behind it.  And it actually does include a long list of famous celebrities and comedies, Tom Papa, Rosario Dawson, Brian Posehn, and even Paul Giamatti lent their voices to this trip; oh yeah and Sheri Moon Zombie (Rob Zombie's wife so no surprised she was there.)  The thing you have to remember and think about when going into this movie is that, for lack of better word, it sucks so bad it was good.

So while i am torn about this movie I would suggest seeing it, just don't pay for it honestly, see it on On Demand or rent it, nothing more
