The Ring Two is a better film than the first one. The story wasn't all that hot but the directing by Japanese film maker Hideo Nakata pulls all of the rabbits out of his hat and uses every trick he knows to make a decent movie with sub-par materials. He some hows manages to make the kid act this time around (he was real bad in the first film). Naomi Watts pulls off a better performance as well. The supporting actors were adequate as well. Too bad the director wasn't given free reins upon the project because he could have made a great film instead of a watchable one.
Let's hope that in the future Hollywood would give Mr. Nakata the chance to really shine! Compared to the other hacks who should be either directing local dinner theaters and community plays, he's actually quite good. The Ring Two is a prime example of what a brilliant director can do with shoddy materials. Make an imitation silk purse out of a sow's ear.
